Biography
Susan Silton Artist Bio My name is Susan Silton and I’m a Delray Beach, Florida-based painter. My love for painting started 40 years ago, when I began hand painting clothing with my two daughters. I realized I had a very steady hand, artistic talent and a love for creating art. It wasn’t all that surprising to me because I come from a family of artists. My uncle, Allen Bellman, was a legendary Marvel Comics illustrator, who worked on Captain America, The Human Torch and many other famous comic books. I’m also cousins with the Barnhart sisters, who specialized in artwork featuring horses. Together, they have created many posters over the years for the Kentucky Derby Festival. During the 1980s, I lived on the Jersey Shore and decided to turn my hobby of hand painting on clothing into a business called Creatively Yours. In 1991, I moved to South Florida and began taking art lessons. I started studying oil painting with artist Arthur Talansky, a master in fine art. Since then, I’ve been consistently painting pictures, often switching off between using acrylics and water-based oils. I describe my work as very eclectic, whimsical and playful with plenty of bright, eye-catching colors. Some of my favorite colors to use in my work are turquoise, red, yellow and orange. I love doing abstracts, pour painting as well as painting tropical locales, animals and people. My real specialty though, is painting flowers. Along with painting, I have recently started doing ceramics, which I also enjoy, and have sold pieces to clients. I have been a member of the Delray Art League since 2021 and shown my work at numerous art fairs and community centers in my Florida area. My work has been commissioned for clients in Florida as well as those living all over the country, including Delaware, New Jersey, Sante Fe, New Mexico and New York City. I’m deeply honored to be a part of Easton Art Galleries. Painting brings me so much joy, especially when people take notice and understand the meaning behind my creations. People have told me what especially attracts them to my work is my use of bold colors. One thing you can say for my art, it’s uplifting, fun and certainly not boring!
