Biography

RG was born and raised in Chicago. His father, artist Russell Taylor, studied at the American Academy of Art. His father's work inspired him. During high school, RG painted a series of designs on sweatshirts. These were given as gifts to appreciative family and friends. Wanting to discover if the apple had not fallen far from the tree, RG began painting later in life. As a self-taught artist, RG studied color theory and started painting to express inner feelings. Turns out the apple fell close to the tree and a new passion was unleashed. RG splits his time between Boca Raton, FL and Chicago. IL. Artist Statement: The source of my work is from my inner being. The work has a consistency of applications composed of bold and faint strokes spontaneously intertwining while producing the multi-layers. The overall quality is vibrant yet balanced. I use acrylic on paper and on canvas using a brush, glass orbs, the occasional golf ball and glitter. The marks are applied with intentionality and precision. The decision-making, or action is based on instinct and is the direct path to creation. I express what is inside and it flows through me. The art has allowed me to journey further inward. The deeper I go in, the more I want to expand out. I become contemplative yet thrilled. Painting shows me that there is more. I am more. As I expand outward, so too does the work. The meaning of the art is intrinsic to the physical aspects of the painting: the interactions of colors and strokes create the movement and drives my curiosity to ask: '"Where to next?"
